Invertebrates

Invertebrates are animals without a backbone. Most experiments involving invertebrates (except cephalopods) are allowed; however, there must be clear educational or scientific value, and the animals must be treated with care and respect. Confirm that your project would be ethical by reviewing Youth Science Canada's Use of Invertebrate Animals in Research Policy prior to submitting your Research Plan to WMSF for approval. Your adult supervisor and scientific supervisor must also review the Policy.

Any animal tissues including cells, organs, blood or animal parts may only be used if they are obtained from a biological supply company, a research facility at a laboratory licensed to do animal studies, or salvaged from the food industry.

Please use the following form to submit your Research Plan to WMSF prior to starting any work on your project. Please contact us when you have your plan ready to submit.
